Karen Meechan
Chief Executive Officer
Karen is a passionate supporter of the Scottish digital tech industry and has been for over 17 years. As Chief Executive Officer of ScotlandIS, the membership body for the industry, she is inspired daily by innovative solutions that are created by the sector that change the way we all live. One of the greatest parts of her job is watching these companies take something from little more than an idea on paper, to a hugely successful business.
Starting with the organisation as a part-time project administrator for one of the ScotlandIS skills initiatives, Nicola is now the Chief Operating Officer for ScotlandIS. She is passionate about tackling the skills gaps in the tech sector and has led on various ScotlandIS skills projects during her time with the organisation, including both the undergraduate paid placement programme, e-Placement Scotland, and the more recent Digital Critical Friends initiative.
A law graduate from the University of Aberdeen, Nicola is an avid supporter of the Scottish digital tech industry and has been for almost 15 years.
Role: I am a Consultant that specialises in Management Accountancy. I hold a full AAT qualification and is a full member of the AAT. I love to read and attend music concerts in my spare time. I love to dance and sing, though singing is usually very off-key…

Role: Within ScotlandIS I wear two different yet complimentary hats working across both the Cyber and Data clusters. Within the Cyber cluster I am the Cyber Development Lead, involved in the delivery of cyber related projects to enhance the community within the cluster.
As manager of the Data cluster, I develop the data ecosystem through community engagement, raising the cluster profile, knowledge sharing events and networking. In addition, the cluster provides market intelligence and assists by highlighting opportunities for skills development, recruitment and funding.
Role: I am responsible for the production and delivery of events across the various areas of the organisation. I work with the ScotlandIS team to deliver events that aim to meet the priorities of our members and cluster groups.
Among other events, I have the pleasure of producing our Digital Tech Awards to celebrate the amazing work being done in the sector and our annual ScotSoft Conference.
Role: Joanne manages the day-to-day marketing activities, working to ensure all marketing efforts align with the ScotlandIS mission and strategy. Among her responsibilities, Joanne runs the regular marketing comms, creates marketing campaigns, manages social channels, promotes the work of members to a wider audience, and supports management and promotion of events. Joanne is enthusiastic about showcasing the innovations and opportunities of Scotland’s digital tech sector, and how it can transform the way we live.
Fiona works with our member companies, education services and skills groups to ensure that young people are aware of the different career paths and opportunities available to them. Fiona works closely with our members to share their expertise with young people throughout Scotland via our Digital Critical Friends initiative.
Fiona has nearly 20 years’ experience in Financial Services working on various projects throughout that time from internal rewards statements, to introducing new systems and products. Fiona uses the skills they have gained over the years to support ScotlandIS in ensuring that the skills pipeline for the technology sector in Scotland has the support required by our members.
Fiona is an advocate of STEM skills in education, volunteering in younger education settings as a STEM Ambassador to discuss basic Digital Skills that all people in Scotland require to be successful in the ever-changing digital world.
Role: Beverly runs our series of ITMS Community events; events for IT managed service providers taking place across Scotland, aimed at emphasising the importance of embedding cyber security resilience in their organisations and how they can work with cyber security companies to better serve their clients. Bev is also working with an advisory group of ITMS providers to create an ITMS Charter, defining a set of standards and values to be expected of ITMS providers in Scotland and allow for quality-assured service.
